Unearthings

Dungeons
beneath the earth
damp walls sweat
cries night echo
but wet walls
stifle screams.
Moss grows
on bloodstains
and streams
are tear-fed waters of Lethe.
My hands
white as the ocean's bones
caress age-locked bars
rust drips like blood.
I cannot forget
the years of my life
abandoned here. . .
I go from here, now
leaving only blood
only pain
only tears.
A golden key
once-buried
already
the soot clears from my wounds
old scars loosen, pale. . .
Now,
I can see the sky. . .
No cage can hold me,
now
I shall live
without bars. . .
